I have extremely oily skin. To the point that I put translucent powder on my eyelids even if I am not wearing makeup to soak up the oil. I have been searching for a long time for that holy grail of makeup to keep my skin matte in the summer months. We are in heat wave central right now in Portland, Oregon, and around the country. I want to let you know some of my favorite products to keep the moisture at bay!
1. Moisturizing Sunscreen - Olay Complete
Skin that is oily needs constant moisture, and in the summer months, you NEED sunscreen. I prefer to use a sunscreen base on my face that is made as a moisturizer. I like to use Olay because it isn't too expensive but is effective. I apply as a base under a primer just as I would with any moisturizer. $8.79 for 6oz at Target.
2. Green Primer - e.l.f. Blemish Control
Green counteracts red, and in the heat my face gets blotchy. Keeping a green primer on your face will help counteract this. Primer also helps set your makeup to help with pore coverage as well as setting a good foundation for the rest of your face. $6.00 on e.l.f.'s website.
3. Green Concealer - Maybelline Face Studio Green Concealer
The Maybelline Green Concealer is one of my GO TO products, no matter how little or how much makeup I am wearing. It conceals redness and blemishes perfectly! Like Jonathan Van Ness said in the first episode of Netflix's Queer Eye reboot, you don't need much, use a little and blend out to conceal the red. If you look green you've gone too far. $9.99 at Target.
4. Foundation - Revlon Colorstay
Revlon Colorstay has been called the drug store dupe for Esteé Lauder's Double Wear Foundation. While Double Wear is priced at $40, Colorstay is only $9.99. This magic serum will cover EVERYTHING and lasts all day. It is seriously a drug store need. I ALWAYS have a bottle of Colorstay in my makeup collection. ❤️ $9.99 at Target.
5. Setting Powder - Airspun Loose Setting Powder
I like to use Laura Mercier's Translucent Setting Powder, because a lot of cheap setting powders cause flashback. What is flashback? Here is a James Charles example.

This is James Charles with a severe flashback from either way too much powder, or a cheap setting powder.
Flashback makes you look ghostly, and nobody wants that! As someone who lives as a ghost every day, I don't need to make it worse with flashback.
My favorite cheap setting powder WITHOUT flashback, is Airspun loose foundation powder.
It works just like my Laura Mercier, without the almost $40 price tag! Plus when I need to freshen up my powder 15 times a day from the oily summer skin, this is the best option. I try to keep some in my purse at all times!
6. Blush/Contour/Highlighter Palette - L.A. Girl Brick Blush Palette
I love having an all in one palette for summer, everything you need in one case. I like to do light blush, contour and highlighter in the summer. Just enough to bring some life back into my face, but not so much that it looks over done or like my cheeks are burning. L.A. Girl is a brand that hits the mark every time for cheap. I like to take L.A. girl whenever I go on vacation! $5.99 at Walmart.
7. Face Finishing Spray - e.l.f. Matte Magic Mist
MY FAVORITE SETTING SPRAY EVER. I use this every single day. I keep one in my house, car, and purse! So cheap and one of the actual best setting sprays ever! Keeps makeup fresh, plus it's nice to just have a little mist when it's extra hot out. 😉 $4.00 at Target.
BONUS - Eyelash Extensions
So, I actually do not wear mascara or fake eyelashes anymore. I have gone exclusively to eyelash extensions. I barely wear makeup anymore with them. I always feel put together, plus if I stay the night with my significant other, I wake up still feeling cute over breakfast. 😘
Here is the thing, eyelash extensions can be a bit pricy. If you have never gotten them done, you pay a high price to get the original eyelashes installed, and then pay for upkeep every three weeks.
In Portland, the average is about $125-$200 initially depending on the set, and then $45-$60 for a fill every three weeks.
If you aren't sure how you feel about eyelash extensions, try getting them for vacation so you don't feel like you are wasting money! That way if you decide you do want them all the time, you had a good trial run and can just make your fill appointment after you get home!
